About the role

About the Role

Leeds City College is recruiting a Student Support Coordinator to join our Visual Arts team based at Quarry Hill Campus. You will be working as part of a dedicated team to deliver a highly effective pastoral support service to students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, achieve their potential, and progress successfully through their studies. The Visual Arts department, based at the Quarry Hill Campus, is a vibrant and creative area offering courses in Art and Design, Fashion and Textiles, Photography, and Graphic Design. The department delivers programmes from Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 BTEC qualifications through to Access to Higher Education, providing learners with the skills, knowledge and experiences required for progression into higher education and careers within the creative industries. Our students benefit from industry-standard studios, specialist workshops and creative learning environments that support the development of practical and professional skills. The department is committed to fostering creativity, inclusion and student success, ensuring that all learners are supported to achieve their individual goals. What You Will Do

  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to support student success, attendance, retention and achievement by promoting wellbeing and helping to remove barriers to learning.
  • Provide high-quality pastoral support to learners across the department, particularly those who may be vulnerable or require additional support to engage successfully with their studies.
  • Deliver timely and effective short-term interventions, supporting students to develop strategies that enable them to remain engaged and make positive progress.
  • Signpost students to appropriate internal and external services, ensuring they receive the specialist support they need at the right time.
  • Act as a key safeguarding contact within the department, recording and reporting safeguarding concerns using appropriate systems and ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, curriculum tutors, department leaders, support services and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, respected and able to succeed.
  • Undertake relevant training, including safeguarding, first aid and mental health awareness, in line with the requirements of the role.

About You

  • Level 2 Safeguarding qualification or willingness to achieve within one year of appointment.
  • Substantial relevant experience of supporting students who have additional support needs or who may be vulnerable.
  • English and Maths at Level 2.
  • Experience of working with young people in an educational or support setting.
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing and student support practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective professional relationships with learners, curriculum staff, college support teams and external agencies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • A proactive, organised and student-centred approach, with a commitment to supporting positive learner outcomes.
